Most residential garage door faults come down to a small number of causes. Here is what we see most often across the GTA.
Often a broken spring, a failed opener, or a safety sensor that has been knocked out of alignment.
Usually worn rollers, dry or damaged hinges, loose hardware, or bearings at the end of their life.
A cable that has come off its drum, a bent track, or a door that has lost its balance.
A disconnected trolley, a stripped gear, or a broken chain or belt inside the opener.
Misaligned or dirty photo-eye sensors, or force settings that need recalibrating.
Perished bottom seal, worn weatherstripping, or a door sitting unevenly on the floor.
We start by putting the door through its full cycle and watching what it does, because the symptom you noticed is often downstream of the real fault. A door that grinds may be telling you about a roller, or about a track that has shifted out of plumb.
Once we know the cause, we explain what we found and what it will take to fix, and confirm the price with you before starting. If a part needs replacing, we tell you why it failed and what replacing it involves.
Most common repairs are completed in the same visit, because our technicians carry the parts that fail most often. Where something has to be ordered in, we say so up front rather than part-fixing the door and coming back.
Garage door springs and cables hold a large amount of stored energy. A spring that has already broken is still dangerous, and a cable under tension can move fast enough to cause serious injury. If something has visibly snapped, stop using the door and the opener and leave it closed until someone qualified has looked at it.
It depends on the fault. Common repairs such as rollers, hinges, sensors or a bottom seal are usually done in a single visit. Something structural, or a part that has to be ordered in, takes longer, and we will tell you that up front rather than after we have started.
